
Hackathons are a great way to garner organic attention to the internet and internet-powered technologies. One such scientific advance is the Internet of Things. Moreover, India’s top colleges have organized Hackathon and innovative competitions in the past to encourage participation in technical fields like IoT. In fact, one of the most recent institutions to organize the Hackathon is the prestigious IIT Madras.
The most recent Hackathon was launched on Saturday, 10 July 2021. In a statement, the institution has invited citizens from across India to take part in the Hackathon. The Hackathon goes by the name of SAMVEDAN 2021-Sensing solutions for Bharat. The aim of the Hackathon is to find sustainable sensor-driven solutions to India-specific problems.
The registrations for the Hackathon in question started as early as 1 July 2021. The registrations accepted anyone who was an Indian citizen residing in India at the time of the competition. The nationwide competition is being organized by the joint cooperation of IIT Madras Pravartak Technology foundation and Sony India Software Centre. Moreover, the Sony India Software Centre is providing the Sensor board for the competition. Furthermore, competition is based on the SPRESENSE board created by Sony Semiconductor Solutions Corporation. Therefore, the competitors have to think of solutions that revolve around this board.
The institution of IITM PTF is a technology innovation hub for sensors, actuators, networking, and control systems. Moreover, all of these components apply in IoT applications. IIT M is, therefore, a pioneer research institute based on IoT and its allied sciences. The objective of this Hackathon is supported by the Department of Science and Technology. In fact, the DST has stated that physical systems and devices are crucial for communication, conveyance, and information gathering in the future. The future will highly depend on machine sensing, automatic controls, artificial intelligence, etc. All these will converge in sensors and IoT devices.
Since sensors play such a vital role in India’s future, the institutions prepare future citizens to participate in ideating and creating IoT sensors and their applications in real life. Only with their use in real life will the ideas solve problems. In fact, the Hackathon has narrowed things down to the citizens of India. Therefore, it is pushing the nationals to take up responsibility for further development and technological advancement.
One reason why such a hackathon is necessary is that the most common problems of the nation are mostly felt by the people of the country. Moreover, if the idea stems from the populace of the country, the finished product will be highly effective.
Firstly, the competition will have three levels. The quarterfinals, semi-finals, and finals are the three stages of the competition. A team of a maximum of three players can participate in this prestigious national competition. However, the selection process is progressive. In the initial stage, judges will select 75 unique ideas. In the next stage, judges will select 25 ideas from the initial 75. And, in the end, a total of seven handpicked ideas will remain as finalists. The best teams in this competition will receive prize money of Rs 3 lakhs. Along with that, the teams will also get entrepreneurial support from IITM.
