As per the latest report, Telstra has inked a contract with the well-known company Yarra Vally Water contracts. As per the contract, the company will offer around 1 million industrial-grade IoT services. The services will be based on the company’s IoT network. It may be noted that this is the biggest IoT deal that that company has ever received and the duration of the contract is more than 15 years.
As per the contract, Telstra will help the Yarra Vally Water in the process of using Telstra’s new ICM- IoT connection manager along with the cellular network. As a result, the company will enjoy coverage of around 3 million square kilometres for LTE-M as well as 1million square kilometres for the NB-IoT devices. The company will collect the necessary data from the IoT sensors, and then those data will be integrated into the sanitation and water networks. All the works will be done using the ICM Platform. Talking about this platform, it is designed and developed to effectively simplify the maintenance and management of a huge number of connections and SIMs.

The company informed that the LTE-M and NB-IoT systems are developed to offer a better IoT deployment process. Besides, with this, one can deploy IoT devices in locations that are not easy to access. For example, underground areas.
Informing more about the contract, Pat McCafferty, the Managing director of Yarra Valley Water, informed that using various types of sensors in the sanitation and water networks, it will be very easier for the company to detect any leaks. As a result, there would fewer wastages. Furthermore, it will help them to save the money of their valuable customers.
There is no need to use four different data points. The new ICM will the company to obtain around 17,000 data points every year. This will offer a real-time and 100 percent accurate understanding of the water and sanitation infrastructure.
The new technology will allow Yarra Valley Water to get readings in real-time from the IoT-enabled sensors deployed in the fields. So, if there is any leak, the company can fix that as soon as possible. Besides, Yarra Valley Water will be able to inform their customers about the issues, helping them to take necessary steps immediately.
It may be noted that in March 2021, Telstra partnered with the BoM- Bureau of Meteorology and the Queensland Government to test the IoT-based pilot program. The program is designed to help farmers ion getting accurate forecasts about the weather.
In the first phase, the company has deployed around 55 weather stations equipped with IoT technology in the existing mobile networks, in the Esk, Gatton, Cecil Plains, Toowoomba, and more areas. The stations help in collecting weather data.
