One of the biggest issues in India in all sectors is its growing population. Day by day, it is increasing at an exponential rate, and the whole nation is facing sanitization issue very badly, especially in the municipal areas. The government handles the garbage management system with the help of the municipal corporation. We can easily see overflowing garbage bins every corner of the roads.
To harness the problem, the government has come up with smart trash can using IoT. The new system will update the house owner and the municipality person to clean the trash upon overflowing the garbage tin. The system will also help in keeping the trash dry and clean by organizing wet and dry garbage separately.
The project has got more than 90% accuracy while implementing dry wet segregation and around 88% accuracy in case of wet waste segregation. With the help of specialized sensors (Ultrasonic and Moisture), the end-users will receive information regarding how many dustbins are filled with garbage. This application is now only available for android users, but very soon they will come up with IOS application.
Metro cities face more problem than other areas as more people tend to live around it due to the availability of jobs and a better lifestyle. People are much busier with their jobs and other engagements. Overflowing dustbins are now normal for common people. We always blame the government and municipality, but to be practical, this is not entirely the municipality’s fault. Though the vans come regularly but, in most cases, the bins fill earlier.
Due to changing weather and growing pollution, various harmful diseases spread faster, which mainly affect infant and older people. To harness this serious problem, the government are planning to install these smart bins at various corners of the metropolitan city.
In this system, a software named Arduino is used to process the information via IoT embedded sensors. Two sensors have used in this system: moisture sensor and ultrasonic sensor. The ultrasonic sensor measures the distance while the moisture sensor is used to segregate dry and wet waste.
This system has two phases one is Physical model, and another one is coding which is done using the C language with Arduino. While designing the main challenge faced by the deployment team is implementing the physical model.
Some of the main components that were used in the making of Smart IoT Garbage Bins are:
The system has already been implemented at small scale, and people are overwhelmed by the effectivity and response. The acceptance and rejection ratio has been measured for future research and deployment purpose.
Along with the rapid growth in smart industry, the city requires a smart garbage management system. The main objective of the approach is to maintain a proper sanitization in all parts of the city so that everyone can move freely. This IoT based waste management system is very effective in keeping the city clean and healthy.
The system will prevent the overflow of the bins. It will simply send notification both to the user and to the municipality team. So that the user does not throw garbage on the same bin unless it is replaced by a new one and the municipality can promptly take action in replacing or emptying the overflowing garbage bin. The government have invested in this system and very soon you will see these smart garbage bins at the corners of the road.
