Scottish technology startup R3-IoT is taking up an expansion venture into the North American IoT market after it managed to raise early funding for its new idea. Its new initiative is to connect advanced devices to the IoT satellite network.
The company is extending satellite-enabled solutions to its clients. Satellite-enabled solutions are the future of remotely controlled devices. Moreover, the satellite-enabled solutions will create a network of smart devices that operates globally.
The new startup received seed funding from venture capitalist firm Space Capital. The million-dollar seed capital allows R3-IoT to start its commercial front from November 2021. R3-IoT creates gateways that link up with sensors and devices in proximity. These devices then link up with satellites in multiple orbits and cellular networks. These networks then transmit data to customers via their cloud services. The data also gets transmitted to its software which then translates the data into useful insights. These insights then help the clients in making business decisions.
The terminals have a battery life of nearly ten days and have a long-term backup. The devices can help professionals working in different businesses like aquaculture, digital health, and infrastructure strengthening.
There are many satellite connections and constellations that connect to IoT devices today. The number of IoT devices is also increasing day by day. Secondly, the capabilities of IoT devices are also growing into diversity. IoT devices are the future as humans start operating IoT devices for different purposes. The tasks that were earlier manual will turn mechanical. IoT is, however, far from being mechanical. With the help of data science and artificial intelligence, IoT takes action and decisions similar to humans. Therefore, R3-IoT’s vision that the IoT devices will be powered by satellites is not an impossible one. With the help of Big Data, the devices can help humans in making important decisions.
R3-IoT aims at exploiting the less ventured end-to-end data services that are not usually offered by pure connective solutions. According to the startup’s CTO, there is an inherent demand for end-to-end data solutions in the industries. For many key industries, it is beyond just connectivity. Most industries that have digitized their infrastructure look for smart devices that can provide insightful help to them. R3-IoT aims at providing just that to key industries.
The CTO of the startup has also said that multiple connectivity technologies are a very big necessity for R3-IoT. Multiple connectivities are the Launchpad of futuristic applications. With this development, the firm can combine satellite connectivity with a technology stack to create a solution that actually works for real-life problems.
The CTO also mentions that although the North American market offers unique opportunities to the firm, the North American landscape forms unique challenges for the company too. Moreover, the firm will face the biggest challenges from the continent’s rural and less developed areas. These areas lack the option of reliable connectivity. However, there is a natural demand for IoT devices in the North American industrial scene. R3-IoT looks forward to exploiting it and expanding operations globally.
