Jio has recently announced all of its plans and prices for JioFiber, and as announced during the Reliance AGM event in August, Jio is aiming to keep its plans cheaper than the rivals while offering better services. However, Jio also aims to bring smart home ecosystem solutions to consumers with its JioFiber service. And in its official press release, Jio has detailed some of the special IoT devices that will promote smart home ecosystems in most homes.
The Jio Set Top Box is the most advanced IoT device in Jio’s portfolio and it is key to most of the smart services that Jio is offering with JioFiber. Additionally, Jio also announced that it will launch a couple of surveillance cameras for home monitoring and even a video calling camera for connecting to TV. JioFiber network will also aid more stable calling with JioCall app on smartphones as well.
If you are interested in getting all the JioFiber ecosystem smart devices, here’s a list of all the stuff that you need to know.
The name may suggest that the Set Top Box is simply a box for streaming TV content and online content from OTT apps. However, in reality, this box offers a lot of next-gen smart features. From gaming to video calling to local network creation, the box is key to offering next-gen smart features.
For video calling, the box will act as the device that will host the video calling services with the help of camera from Jio. The Set Top Box will be able to host a video call with up to four people at once on Jio’s network
Then there’s the gaming part which created a lot of buzz. Jio says that the Set Top Box will offer zero-latency gaming experience and support all popular gaming controllers. Hence, Jio’s gaming service is similar to Stadia wherein people will be able to buy the games online and using JioFiber’s network, they will able to play them online from a central server with Jio’s claimed zero-latency gameplay.
Even for the Mixed Reality services, Jio will rely on its cloud service to process all the Mixed Reality stuff and stream them to the VR headset that Jio will sell later.
As for Home Networking, subscribers will be able to plug in a hard drive or a thumb drive to the Jio Set Top Box and use it as common storage over the home network. It’s similar to local network storage for all devices but instead of wired, it will be wireless.
Yes, Jio is coming up with a few cameras for smart home solutions that will merge along with the JioFiber smart ecosystem.
Jio will launch a range of home security cameras that will be connected with the JioFiber home network. A 24/7 monitoring camera will help users keep track of pets, elderly or babies while they are away from home. A home security camera will keep track of your home when nobody’s around. The Jio Door Camera will keep a track of all visitors on the door from anywhere on your phone.
Additionally, for video calling, there’s a JioTVCamera that will connect to the Jio Set Top Box and help make video calls from the TV to other Jio users on other devices.
At the AGM launch event, Jio mentioned that it has acquired an Indian startup for developing its MR headset for JioFiber MR services. The Jio Holoboard MR headset will connect with JioFiber network in homes and will offer access to all MR services such as MR shopping, MR education and VR movie watching experience.
